On 30 June 2026, ICHESS took part in Bissau in the launch of the geo-referenced mapping of curadeiros (traditional practitioners) in Guinea-Bissau, alongside Dr Armando Sifna, MD, MSc, Director General of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (DGPPS) of the Ministry of Public Health.

In many communities, traditional practitioners are among the first people families consult when they fall ill. Knowing where they are and what they do is an essential step to build a structured dialogue with the health system, improve the referral of patients to health facilities and better plan community health interventions.

ICHESS supports this work with its national consultants in Guinea-Bissau and its experience in geo-referenced mapping and community health systems strengthening.
